5.3 Strongest  Earthquake Jolts  Northern Parts of Pakistan



An earthquake of moderate intensity was felt in the country's upper and northern parts on Friday.
According to the Regional Seismic Monitoring Centre, Lahore, the jolts were recorded at an intensity of 5.3 on the Richter scale. Tremors were felt in Islamabad, Peshawar, Swat, Buner, Shangla, Malakand besides various other parts of Pakistan.
The tremors of quake were felt in Chitral, Peshawar, Swat, Dir, Malakand and other northern areas.
According to experts, the intensity of the earthquake was measured at 5.5 magnitude on the Richter scale and it occurred at a depth of 213 kilometers. The epicenter of the earthquake was in the Hindukush range of Afghanistan.
No casualty and damage have been reported so far.


Earlier on Wednesday, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake rocked northern and northwestern parts of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
The earthquake’s epicenter was along Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region with the depth of 97 kilometers, according to Pakistan’s meteorological department.
At least six children were injured in northwestern Bannu district when the children jumped off the second floor of a school building. This was the second time on Wednesday when earthquake jolted northern and northwestern Pakistan.
Earlier in the morning, the earthquake jolted most parts of northwestern Pakistan. No loss of life and property were reported in the morning jolts.
Pakistan is located on the Eurasian Tectonic Plate, which is known for high levels of seismic activity.
This is the second earthquake reported in this week. A 5.5 magnitude earthquake hit different cities of country on the first day of Eid ul Fitr.
The tremors of the quake were felt in Peshawar, Swat, Nowshehra, Abbottabad, Islamabad and other parts of the country.
The earthquake's epicentre was reported by the Met department to be the Tajikistan-Xinjian border region. It had a depth of 120 kilometres.
Panic arose among citizens due to the jolts, prompting them to quickly vacate their homes and offices and stand under the open skies to wait out the episode.
A flurry of tweets was seen across Twitter with #Islamabad and #earthquake trending. People prayed for the safety of their loved ones and some were asking for verification of whether the tremors they felt were real.
